As all experienced outdoorsmen know, getting sufficient, restorative sleep each night is incredibly important when camping out. If you want to have the energy to enjoy the wilderness, you can’t be spending your nights tossing and turning on rough, uneven ground, or shivering in low-quality sleeping bags. Our sleeping cots and inflatable sleeping pads offer a supportive, comfortable surface and keep you up off the cold ground.
That said, Woods Canada’s sleeping bags, or “robes,” as they were called in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, are perhaps the most iconic piece of outdoor gear in our entire catalog. Our robes have a long and storied history spanning back over a hundred years and were used on the Amundsen Northwest Passage Expedition (1906) and the Stefansson Canadian Arctic Expedition (1913-1918), among other cutting-edge wilderness missions. Our legendary ARCTIC mummy bag continues this tradition in the 21st century.
In the classic Ernest Hemingway war novel, For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940), Spanish civil war volunteer Robert Jordan remarks on the superb quality of Woods’ sleeping bags. When the craven resistance fighter Pablo questions his decision to sleep outside in the snow, Jordan rebuts, thinking to himself: You don’t know why those old eiderdowns cost sixty-five dollars ... I’d like to have a dollar for every time I’ve slept in that thing in the snow.
We don’t just offer adult-sized sleeping bags, either. We also have sleeping bag models custom-made for kids, so your little ones can stay toasty warm at night, too.
If Ernest Hemingway, one of the most famous adventurers and outdoorsman of the 20th century, thought enough of our sleeping bags to include them in one of his most famous works, then trust us, you’ll be satisfied as well. Experience the supreme comfort of Woods Canada sleeping gear for yourself!
